What is CBD?
Cannabidiol – also referred to as CBD – is a cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. It is one of the two most popular cannabinoids in the cannabis plant, the second being Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
Cannabinoids are naturally occurring chemical compounds present in the cannabis plant. When cannabis is consumed, these cannabinoids interact with receptors in the user’s endocannabinoid system, resulting in the many effects of cannabis.
Effects are tailored to particular cannabinoids, however, and CBD is mostly therapeutic and medicinal. THC, on the other hand, is also medicinal but is known for its intoxicating, psychoactive effects.
What are CBD oils?
CBD oils – or ‘hemp oils’ – are cannabis oils with high concentrations of Cannabidiol. These oils contain little to no traces of THC. They are formulated by extracting oils from cannabis strains that are high in CBD. They can also be created by processing extracted oils with the purpose of separating CBD from other cannabinoids – predominantly THC.

CBD oils work by interacting with an innate neuro-transmitting system in the human body, called the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) works to regulate bodily functions such as sleep, appetite, and hunger. The ECS contains two receptors, namely the Cannabis Receptor 1 (CB1) and Cannabis Receptor 2 (CB2). These receptors bind with the CBD, thereby giving it the ability to influence bodily functions.
