Buy CBD (Cannabidiol) Australia

What is CBD Oil (Cannabis Oil)?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the many chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant. These chemical compounds are referred to as cannabinoids. Cannabidiol is the second most common cannabinoid in the cannabis plant. This is after the psychoactive cannabinoid, tetrahydrocannabinol.

Cannabidiol (CBD) oils are cannabis oils with high concentrations of CBD. These oils are made by extracting CBD from the resin of the cannabis plant – predominantly the hemp plant – and diluting these concentrates with carrier oil. The most common carrier oils for diluting CBD extracts are hemp and coconut oil.

Unlike pure cannabis oils, CBD oils do not have psychoactive properties. This is due to the absence of the chemical compound THC. In some CBD oils, there are trace amounts of THC. However, any cannabis oil with a higher concentration of CBD in comparison to THC is referred to as CBD oil. It is also essential to note that no matter the concentration of THC, as long as CBD is the higher concentration, the oil will produce little to no psychoactive effects.

CBD oils are often referred to as ‘hemp oils’ or ‘CBD Cannabis oils’.

How Does It Work and What Are Its Uses?

CBD oils function by interacting with the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system – also known as the ECS – is an innate neurotransmitter network which interacts with cannabinoids produced by and introduced to the human body. The natural cannabinoids produced by the human body are called endocannabinoids.

Endocannabinoids – as well as the cannabinoids from the cannabis plant – work by interacting with the ECS via receptors called cannabis receptors. There are two cannabis receptors called the Cannabis Receptor – 1 (CB1) and Cannabis Receptor – 2 (CB2). These interactions are responsible for the regulation and balance of the internal environment of the human body; a state known as homeostasis.

Cannabidiol interacts with the CB2 receptors. The structure of cannabidiol is similar to that of the 2-AG, one of the endocannabinoids which interact with the CB2 receptors. The CB2 receptors are found primarily in the immune system but can also be found in the gastrointestinal system and the spleen. These receptors influence bodily functions such as;

  • Appetite
  • Fertility
  • Immune system functions
  • Pain
  • Motor control

Numerous studies and research projects have proven CBD oils are a beneficial medication for a wide array of medical conditions. The illnesses CBD can help relieve include:

CBD oils are legal in Australia, as they were legalised alongside medical marijuana in 2016. However, although these oils are legal, they are not easily accessible. According to Australian law, CBD is a Schedule 4 item under the Therapeutic Goods Act (TGA). In order to access CBD oils, the patient must obtain legal authorisation from a licensed medical practitioner.

It is important to note that hemp CBD oil is the only variety of CBD oil which is legal in Australia. Hemp CBD oils are oils which are derived from the hemp plant – the sister plant to marijuana. CBD oils derived from cannabis strains which are high in cannabidiol – such as Sweet and Sour Widow and Ringo’s Gift – are strictly prohibited.

Where Can I Buy CBD Oil In Australia?

CBD oils cannot be purchased without proper authorisation by licensed medical practitioners or the state. As stated previously, CBD oils are controlled substances and are not available for purchase over-the-counter (OTC). Should CBD oil be decriminalised or legalised, it would become more widely available and individuals would be able to purchase it without any issues.

For individuals who have approved CBD oil prescriptions, the product can be purchased from a number of medical marijuana dispensaries available across the country.

CBD Summary

Cannabidiol (CBD) oils are oils derived from the cannabis plant which contain concentrate amounts of the cannabinoid CBD. Cannabis oils work by impacting the CB2 receptors – cannabis receptors present in the endocannabinoid system. These oils are beneficial for numerous medical conditions including cancer and mental health disorders.

CBD oils are legal in Australia but are a controlled substance under the Therapeutic Goods Act (TGA). In order to access and purchase CBD oils, individuals must obtain proper authorisation from a licensed medical practitioner. However, with the range of benefits the substance offers, it could be worth the effort.
